MESSAGE from Dr. Paul Echlin MD The increasing incidence of hockey concussions, ranging from brief periods of brain disturbance to permanent brain injury, is an alarming and dangerous trend. The most impressive panel of professional players and medical experts ever convened to discuss concussions will assemble in London, Ontario on Saturday, January 17, 2009. Eric Lindros, Jeff Beukeboom, Alyn McCauley, and Marcus Moore, all former professional hockey players, will share their personal experiences concerning concussions and will participate in audience/panel question and answer sessions. In addition to the impressive athlete panel, 9 world-renowned experts will provide current, comprehensive and practical information on the identification, treatment and prevention of hockey concussions. Dispelling misconceptions and recognizing mismanagement of concussed athletes are of importance to everyone in the game of hockey….athletes, parents, coaches, trainers and medical professionals. We know that hockey personnel will benefit from this Summit. Participants will have an opportunity to interact with the players and international experts, and will network with other participants from across Canada with similar interests.
